| 内容記述 | 現代のわが国では,若い世代になるほど生と死との明確な見境が失われつつあるように見受けられる。自分たちの日常生活の周辺で,死に直接かかわる機会が減少しているからであろう。たしかに現代は若い世代の人たちも含めて,以前であれば誰しもが嫌でも経験せざるを得なかった生死の現実をいよいよ見ない社会に生きている。欧米社会はキリスト教の強い影響下で,伝統的に生死を明確に分けて捉える伝統の中に身をおいてきた。しかし,わが国では通俗的な生死の観念が色濃く作用し,仏教移入後も,むしろ仏教の教説をたくみに換骨奪胎させながら独自の,連続性をもった生死観を形成してきた。ありていにいえば死の世界の仮説や物語は実証方法がないため,あらゆる憶測や伝承,仮説が生き続け,それが巧妙かつ乱麻のごとく長年にわたって人々の観念の中に定着してしまっている。それが現代に至って,以前からある生死観を引きずりつつ,同時に現実の死の実感を希釈させてしまい,それらをない混ぜにした非連続性のある広汎な「生死感」のようなものが形成されつつあるようだ。しかしながら,それはいよいよあやふやな,かつ感覚的・無感動で底の浅い生と死の内容しかもたなくなってしまったのではないだろうか。 | |||||||||||||

| 内容記述 | It seems that the life-death border envisaged by Japan's young generations is being blurred. The younger they are, the more likely they are to be less aware of life and death surrounding them. This is because they do not have many direct experiences of such serious incidents in everyday life. Many of them seem to think that the dead will be resuscitated like TV game heroes. In Western society, which has been influenced by Christianity, there is a clear boundary line drawn between two spheres, but we Japanese never have had such a manifest distinction throughout history. This tradition may be partially responsible for the young generations' inclination toward the gradational life-death view. | |||||||||||||
