Five AINO meetings were held for one year under the leadership of the President of Aino University to provide an opportunity for leading staff and faculty members to discuss the mid- and long-range planning of the university. AINO meetings were unique in that : 1) presentations and discussion were in English, 2) all meetings were observed by English speaking non-Japanese guest scholars, and 3) attending members were limited to ten to promote active participation. In the rapidly changing international society, the importance of having a command of English continues to grow in both educational and research fields.
Therefore, English education is crucial for every university. In order to be an institution nurturing individuals who can positively contribute to society as healthcare professionals in a globalized society, the members of AINO meetings support the following
recommendations : we should foster a positive learning environment for students to think and act from an international perspective. Enhancement of communication skills, basic language skills, and autonomous learning should be considered in English education at Aino University. English education should be an essential part of the universityʼs program, aiming for higher literacy and competency. |
