"本論文の目的は現代日本において複雑化・混迷化する医療者・患者関係の解決への方策を探求することである。そのためにはまず日本の医療現場の現状と問題点を明確にする必要があると考えられる。その結果、日本では米国と異なり医療者・患者関係に家族が深くかかわること多く、建前では患者の「自己決定」、本音では家族と患者による「共同決定」という二重構造の状態であると考えられた。すなわち医療者は患者のみならず家族とも良好な関係を築く必要があり、そのために医療者は米国流の契約関係に基づいたインフォームド・コンセントを順守するのみならず、患者・家族とより良好なコミュニケーションをとることが求められている。その一つの方法として、「もし自分が患者だったら」「もし自分が患者の家族だったら」という患者や家族の立場に立つImaginative
